Bank of England speaker inspires Business and Economics students

Bank of England guest speaker Zahid Amadxarif

On Friday De Aston Sixth Form Business and Economics students were joined by Zahid Amadxarif from the Bank of England for a guest lecture.

Zahid is an Economist at the Bank of England, a role he gained after studying BSc (Hons) Economics at Brunel University followed by a Master’s degree in the discipline at UCL.

The wide ranging talk began with an introduction to the basics of the monetary system, exploring what the economy is and how it affects everyday life.

Following that, Zahid explained what role the Bank of England plays in the economy from setting interest rates to monetary policy.

Before ending the session with a question and answer session, the students were introduced to a range of career opportunities and advice on what to do should they wish to pursue a career in economics.

Business and Economics teacher Mr Haigh was grateful for the opportunity:

“We were one for the first schools outside of London to have this presentation and it was great to see so many students engaging and having their aspirations raised.”

Business is taught from Year 10 through to the Sixth Form at De Aston School. Ex-students have gone on to jobs in Accountancy, Retail Management, banking and some have even set-up their own businesses. Find out more about Business at De Aston.
