Year 11 Food Technology students embarked on a research trip yesterday to help with their current controlled assessment task.
Students visited the Petwood Hotel in Woodhall Spa and the Holiday Inn on Brayford Wharf, Lincoln, to gain valuable insight, advice and tips from professional chefs.
At the Holiday Inn students met and questioned the food and beverage manager, Stewart Perkins, as well as receiving tips on food presentation from one of their chefs. They also had the chance to taste test dishes from the menu.

At Petwood Hotel students met one of the directors and head chef, who answered questions and gave advice. Students then went into the kitchen area where they had a go at making elements of the hotel’s desserts alongside their pastry chef, and were shown how to prepare chicken by the sous chef.
Students then got to taste the dishes they had made after witnessing the chefs plate them up, giving them advice on presentation as they did so.
De Aston School Food Technology Teacher Mrs Perkins praised the trip and students involved:
“The trip was an incredible, informative opportunity for the group and all students were a credit to the school.
“They gained invaluable knowledge and skills to help them with their controlled assessment task.”
Students at De Aston School often have the opportunity to benefit from a range of trips and visits to help them with their studies. Find out more on our website.
